It’s foundation extravaganza time!!
Yup, I bought a couple of my lemmings and have actually put most of them to the test already. Here’s a quick rundown. And i’ll try to give a more in-depth review in the future, if I feel like it, coz I’ve only done a couple days with each foundation.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Makeup
OMG, this is like hands down the most fabulous foundation in the world! It offers full coverage that doesn’t cake, controls oil very well and it has a shade that’s a perfect match to my skin tone! I love it so much that during my Bangkok holiday, I saw fit to bring only this foundation and no other alternative. It covers all my red spots and my awful dark under-eyes, and works wonders hiding the pores around my nose (those are the most prominent because I have a lot of pitted scars in that area and they accentuate pores so horribly!) I love that it wears a good 7-8 hours before I see it thinning on the oil on my nose. It never thins around my cheeks, chin and forehead, and that’s a feat coz I have really oily skin! When I retouch, I only have to blot around my nose and apply a bit of powder and the foundation looks as fresh as if i had just put it on. It’s also the most affordable in this list, coming at around $56 (SGD); it’s about the same price as my MAC foundation. The only down side that I found was the bottle. WTF no dispenser pump? That sucks. But beyond that, the foundation wins and has progressed to being my HG.
Diorskin Forever Haute Perfection Makeup
I bought this on a whim because Sephora at Marina Bay Sands didn’t have my shade of the MUFE HD and I was so disappointed that I had to pick up something to mollify myself. I’m on the fence with how much I like this foundation. On the one hand, it has pretty good coverage and feels ok and lightweight on the skin. It covers my eyebags flawlessly and overall looks really good, PLUS, the bottle has a pump dispenser. On the other hand, it’s expensive at $75 and, on occasion, I’ve found it cakes on my cheekbones, and that’s an odd place for foundation to cake. I suspect that might have been because of the face powder I used for retouching (Fanny Serrano Cake Foundation. Yup, I set my liquid foundation with powder foundation, and retouch with it too! LOL) This foundation is about half a shade lighter than my natural skin tone, and it’s slightly pinker, although it still has warm undertones. Nowadays, when I use it, I mix it with a bit of MAC Studio Sculpt at NC37 (way darker and yellower than my actual tone) or Revlon Colorstay. And that’s both for obtaining the right shade and to prevent the caking. I’ve been successful so far, but because this is so pricy, I would never wear it on a daily basis, and especially not when I’m just going off to work.
Lancome Maqui-Blanc Miracle
There’s nothing miraculous about this foundation wtf! When I was buying it, I asked for the fullest coverage foundation for Lancome, and this watered down crap was what I got! Don’t get me wrong: this foundation isn’t so bad if you were looking for light to medium coverage that shows a lot of your natural color (and blemishes!) under it. Maybe if I had flawless, even skin, this would have been a go-to. As it is, it isn’t full coverage enough to hide my little red capillaries around my nose. I need to use a concealer under it, and in the morning, I’m always in a hurry and simply don’t have time to play around with concealer when I could just reach for a foundation with better coverage. The oil control for this isn’t all that good either: it lasted maybe 4 hours before I could see that I had a budding pimple smack on the middle of my nose. This ain’t cheap either: it retails for $75, and I really would have wished for something that had better coverage and oil control for that amount of money.
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation
I bought this when I was in Bangkok. At Duty Free, it’s 1400BHT, and at the retail stores in malls, it’s 1650BHT. Pricing isn’t so bad - I thought it’s cheaper there than it is in Manila (this is over P3000 in Manila) and if I were to convert the retail price in Bangkok to SGD, it would have come out at around $68, all in all not a bad price for a really amazing foundation! I’ve been using it for 3 days and I absolutely love it: it’s good a good medium coverage that, when mixed with either Revlon Colorstay or MAC Studio Sculpt, yields a very good full face that covers all my blemishes (including my currently red nose that really lights up like Rudolph because of the zit) The slight creamy glow makes me look like I have awesomely healthy skin, and if I wanted the glow to go away, all I needed was a matte finish powder foundation for setting. Again, this doesn’t have a pump nozzle and that’s always a down side for me, because I just find that pouring foundation from the bottle mouth is messy business and almost always makes me use more than what I need. I found that I have a couple red spots ( dunno yet if these are zits or whatever) around my forehead and chin after 3 days of using this. I haven’t really changed anything in my routine except for the foundation (and a change in the sponge brand I’m using), so this might actually be the one giving me the spots. But the spots are almost unnoticeable even without makeup, so I still might give this foundation a chance before I convince myself that I’m allergic. :p It’s really really nice, after all, and I really really wanted this for a very long time.
And that is it! I’m not reviewing the MUFE HD Foundation yet, since I haven’t tried it. I’ve just picked it up last night and I want the three little red spots on my face to go away first before I try another new foundation, so I’ll save that one for another day :)

Got my Sigma!! #makeup #brushes @itstrishswagger , 6 biz days lang ang normal shipping😊 (Taken with instagram)
Here’s my initial Tag-lish review (which is actually just a reply to Trish’s comparison question on FB). I haven’t done detailed testing yet since I washed the brushes. Once they dry out (and I hope they do by Saturday!) I’m gonna try them all to compare! ^__^
I really hope my Sigma brushes work out real well. If they do, I might finally stop splurging on these overly expensive MAC brushes.
Sigma E55 vs MAC 239 (eye shader brush) - MAC is better. Mas maliit yung brush head, masyado malaki yung Sigma brush para sa mata ko.
Sigma E30 vs MAC 219 (Pencil brush) - I like the Sigma bristles better. Medyo prickly yung bristles nung MAC. But in terms of stiffness, I like the MAC brush better. Mas madali i-control to draw the shape of the eyeshadow. Mas manipis din yung Sigma, and that makes it better for drawing on the outer v. Basta, ma-ek ek ako sa pencil brushes (I have 3x na MAC 219, and maybe 5 other such pencil brushes pa)
Sigma F50 vs MAC 187 (Duo Fiber brush) - no difference. Pareho lang for me, and I don’t really use this brush for anything besides blush and highlighter.
Sigma F40 vs MAC 169 (Large Angled Contour brush) - I like Sigma better.Smooth yung tips nung bristles, yung MAC ko medyo matigas. Sigma works good for blush, MAC will be good for bronzer, I think.
Sigma F80 vs MAC 190 (Kabuki Brush) - MAC 190 is domed kasi tsaka made of natural hair. Di sya pwede sa liquid and cream makeup. I like how thick the Sigma brush is. Try ko bukas sa foundation sa face ko. :)
Sigma Miss Taylor Retractable Kabuki vs Too Faced Retractable Kabuki - Too Faced is thicker and has a more luxurious feel, so I still like my Too Faced brush better (also, it’s hot pink!) The Sigma brush shed a few hairs when I first opened it, but overall, quality looks good. I bought it for travel.

New acquisition alert!
My boyfriend drove me to The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands today so I can walk around the mall area. I didn’t get the chance to do so last night before we went to KuDeTa, where my friend, Lanie, was having a party for her birthday.
Anyway, a couple discoveries in MBS Shoppes:
- The Sephora here really sucks. Like some many stuff out of stock. WTH?
- Really tempted to go into the Lancome studio, but I know that I will just be tempted to buy Visionnaire, and I mean I heard that’s really pricey and not really all that good but I wanna buy it anyway, ya know?
- There is no MAC counter in MBS. I mean WTF? MAC counter needs to be in every high end mall. HELLO?
So anyway, since there wasn’t a MAC counter, I had to forego buying the stuff in my lemming list for makeup brushes, and instead look a the makeup at Sephora. I wanted to buy the Makeup For Ever HD Foundation, but my color match is out of stock D: How sucky is that?
Fortunately, I found a really good match on the Diorskin Forever Flawless Makeup, and -get this- the Dior foundation was like cheaper than the MUFE HD Foundation! Hah! I am pretty sure I will still probably pick up the MUFE HD Foundation at some future visit. I’ll be sure to go to ION or Taka Sephora instead, where they don’t run out of stuff I wanna get. I’m just so miffed.
Next, I wanted to pick up the Makeup For Ever Uplight Gels but it was $59 for some tiny tube of the stuff. I thought Benefit Moonbeam would have been a fantastic dupe for the shade that I wanted, but again, this crappy branch didn’t have Moonbeam either.
To mollify my shopping urges, I picked up Benefit’s Girl Meets Pearl luminizer and Smashbox Artificial Lights. They both look real pretty! And because I now use a stippling brush to apply my liquid luminizers, the finish I get is so much nicer than when I normally use my fingers to spread the product.
I also picked up the Sephora Smoothing Primer, because it was only $20 and the finish on the back of my hand is just so nice and smooth (also because I was annoyed that the Too Faced Primed and Poreless Primer is $50 for a tiny fl oz. What a rip off!) The Sephora primer looks and feels a lot like my MUFE All Mat, just having a lighter texture. It’s also quite similar to the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer. I will try to do a post in the future differentiating each, once I’ve found out how much the other two more expensive primers cost now. I picked up mine a bit of time back, and bought them online.
I’m really quite annoyed that cosmetic prices are ridiculous here in Singapore, but at least I can afford a few pieces at a time, and stuff aren’t like crazy expensive like they are in Manila. Sometimes, you gotta wonder how these jacked up prices could be acceptable when there are stuff like tariff-free trading agreements with the US.
Anyway, I will do some future reviews when I’ve tried all these goodies out. :)

Colorstay Update!
Hi guys! Popping by real quick before my medication renders me brainless for the rest of the night :p
I just found out a really awesome quality of the Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation that makes me love it like 143254565 times more: that awesome budge-proof for 16 hours claim? Totally true! Like it doesn’t even transfer on tissue when I wipe the snot off my nose (gross!) And this is regardless of whether I had just put on the makeup or not. My face could get oilier than the inside of a deep frier and that stiff still does not budge at all!
I think this is a really fantastic quality of the makeup, considering that I’ve had a perennial problem of gross foundation transfers from my forehead on all my scoop-necked white clothing.
Now, I know a great many other foundations claim this quality, but I’ve never seen it happen ever with all the foundations I’ve ever tried, whether liquid, cream, powder or mineral. This is quite possibly the first (I just discovered a second one: MAC Studio Sculpt, but that’s for another post ^_^)
And ok, enough about me blabbering on about Colorstay. Suffice it to say that I am certainly sure that this foundation has just been elevated to “Favorite” status. <3

Beauty lemming of the day:
NARS Sheer Matte Foundation!
As you can see, I simply cannot have enough of foundation, and I have read so many wonderful reviews of the NARS Sheer line (Matte and Glow). I wanted to get Glow, but I simply feel I cannot pull it off because of my combination skin.
Singapore Sephora doesn’t carry NARS yet, but I will be going to Bangkok in 2 weeks and I’m super hopeful I can pick up a bottle of this to try out while at a Duty Free.
I’m also totally hoping that there will be Tarte available, although I feel that’s incredibly a long shot. I’ve never seen Tarte sold in retail anywhere in Asia Pacific. Anyway, I’m going to be saving my $42 for my NARS foundation, and hopefully also get to pick up a few other stuff from NARS. <3

Foundation Smackdown: Revlon Photo Ready vs. Colorstay
Now, I know there have been a great many smackdown and comparison reviews for the Revlon Photo Ready and Colorstay liquid foundations, so this is just an add-on kinda review on my experiences with both. There won’t be any swatches with this post, since I hadn’t bought different shades and I just picked up the shade that best matched my color.
Hi everyone! I’ve decided to create a new blog instead of continuing my old domain for a couple reasons (mostly coz I don’t want to continue paying for my domain :p)
Let me introduce myself and my new blog:
I’m Jill, and I’m 29 years old. I love makeup and beauty products, but a lot of the time, my face, with all the blemishes and imperfections, just isn’t the best canvas. I have awful pitted scars on my cheeks, the result of a particularly pimply teen years ;) And I also have some permanent discoloration of my under-eyes. This really bums me out, because I love to put on makeup, but a lot of products just don’t look good on blemished skin.
Over the years of my makeup and beauty product fandom, I’ve discovered some really fantastic products, and have also spent a large amount of money on a fair share of dud products.
This blog is my contribution to the makeup community: a review, haul and how-to site dedicated to people like me: just ordinary girls with ordinary skin problems, trying my very best to get that flawless, airbrushed magazine cover look! I don’t claim to be an expert of any sort, and my blog posts are always always my honest opinion of the stuff that I buy. Everything that you will see featured here are always products I have spent my own hard-earned money on. If I ever get something for free, it will always be from product promos or gifts from relatives or friends. (I’m hardly famous enough for companies to give free products for reviews to :p)
On a personal note, let me also say that I have a day job, and it’s a real job. I work as a senior IT analyst for a bank. That means I’ve got plenty of hours spent at work, lots of overtime activity, weekend work and night-time calls. And all the stress and hard work really contribute to a whole host of the skin problems that I have. :p
I have a huge obsession with finding the perfect foundation, and this is because of my quest for flawless looking skin with all the blemishes on my face. I don’t confess to have watched a lot of tutorial videos, because I don’t always have time to do so. I like watching foundation review videos, though, because I learn lots about different brands. My oily/combination skin limits my makeup choices, but that’s never stopped me from buying stuff meant for dry skin.
Since I’ll be hitting 30 this year, I’ve also started to buy more of those anti-aging stuff. I need to combat the onset of wrinkles, especially since I already have budding crow’s feet every time I smile. So, I’ll be reviewing all of that, and I’ll try very hard not to be as long-winded in my review posts as I am here. :D
And that’s it! I hope some people will stick around as I try to discover all the best makeup and skincare to make a flawless canvass out of a blemished face. <3
